Art Story | “Not Finished Yet” (Isaiah 61:1-7; 2 Corinthians 5:17) Copy

“Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.” – 2 Peter 3:8-9 MSG

This painting is fashioned after a series of mixed-media features Michelle calls Paper Dolls. Paper Dolls are figures drawn onto watercolor paper and then dressed up with acrylic paints before being fixed to an acrylic background on canvas.

In Not Finished Yet, Michelle originally saw Jesus wearing a coat of many colors bearing the colors of all the national flags of the world, but as she painted, God showed her these circular spheres that were developing, colliding, and merging, and with them each color represented was added to His coat. As the last sphere was in place, she recognized His coat was not filled in and stopped painting. As she put down her brush she heard the Lord’s voice say, “I’m not finished yet.”

This picture represents the Lord’s desire to reach the people of the world and bring them into His body, and the desire to bring His body into Unity in Him.
